Steelers appealing to TV networks

The Steelers' popularity and coast-to-coast appeal shows in the NFL schedule that was released Wednesday. The Steelers, who open the 2007 regular season Sept. 9 against the Browns in Cleveland, are scheduled to play five nationally televised night games in what will be the team's 75th season.

Three of the Steelers' night games will be played at Heinz Field, including back-to-back contests against the Miami Dolphins (Nov. 26) and the Bengals (Dec. 2). The Steelers also will play host to the Ravens on Nov. 5 in a "Monday Night Football" game. They play twice on Sunday night, twice on Monday night and once on Thursday night. Continue

Steelers' preseason times set

The Steelers announced the times of four of their five preseason games, two of which will be nationally televised. Their preseason schedule will start at 8 p.m. Aug. 5 vs. New Orleans in the annual Hall of Fame Game in Canton, Ohio. The game will be telecast on the NFL Network. The team's other nationally televised game will be Aug. 26 vs. Philadelphia at Heinz Field. The 8 p.m. game will be broadcast on NBC.

The Steelers' other preseason home game will be Aug. 11 vs. the Green Bay Packers, a 7:30 p.m. kickoff. They also will play at Washington at 8 p.m. Aug. 18 and the Carolina Panthers on the road Aug. 30 at a time yet to be determined. Continue

Steelers, Saints open preseason

The Steelers, one year removed from winning Super Bowl XL, remain a popular attraction under new coach Mike Tomlin. Two of the Steelers' 2007 preseason games will appear on national television, the NFL announced Monday. Not all dates and times are final. The Steelers, who open against New Orleans at 8 p.m. Aug. 5 in the Hall of Fame Game in Canton, Ohio -- the contest will be shown on the NFL Network -- host Philadelphia at 8 p.m. Aug. 26. Hall game perk: more practice for Steelers

The Steelers and new coach Mike Tomlin will get plenty of extra practice time with which to get acquainted this season. The announcement that the Steelers and New Orleans Saints will open the NFL preseason Aug. 5 in the Pro Football Hall of Fame Game in Canton, Ohio, means more than just an additional preseason game for both teams.

It also means the Steelers will be allowed to open training camp a week earlier than usual. The Steelers have not officially identified their first day of training camp in Latrobe, but NFL rules allow the team to open camp two weeks before its first preseason game. Continue
